The already sprawling cast of Netflix’s Three-Body Problem adaptation just got a lot more crowded. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers have added Jonathan Pryce, Rosalind Chao, Ben Schnetzer, and Eve Ridley to the upcoming series. Three-Body Problem series.
Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are developing the show as part of their exclusive pact with Netflix. Alexander Woo (AMC’s The Terror) is also working with them as a writer and executive producer. The show is based on Chinese author Liu Cixin’s trilogy of sci-fi novels, which tell the story of humanity’s preparation for an alien invasion. Cixin’s first book made history in 2015 when it won the Hugo Award for Best Novel—the first Asian novel to ever do so. A Chinese film adaptation wrapped production in 2015, but the movie still hasn’t been released.

Pryce most recently appeared in All the Old Knives, which debuted on Amazon back in April. In 2020, he received his first Oscar nomination for his role in The Two Popes. Chao is probably best known for her role in 1993’s The Joy Luck Club. Throughout the ‘90s, she also made several appearances as Keiko O’Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Ben Schnetzer recently headlined Hulu’s short-lived Y: The Last Man series in 2021. Ridley, however, is an industry newcomer with very few credits to her name.
Pryce’s casting reunites him with Benioff and Weiss after he played the High Sparrow on Game of Thrones. Fellow GoT alums John Bradley and Liam Cunningham have roles in The Three-Body Problem as well. Other cast members for the series include Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, and Saamer Usmani. Derek Tsang (Better Days) is directing several episodes of the series and will also serve as a co-executive producer.
