House of the Dragon Season 2 Release Date Window Set

The second season of the Game of Thrones spin-off/prequel series House of the Dragon is gearing up for a summer 2024 release on HBO.

Per Variety, HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed the Season 2 release window for the hit series during a media presentation. Members of the press were treated to an exclusive trailer for the upcoming season. No details are available regarding the actual contents of the trailer.

Taking place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood. The series follows the events that led to the downfall of the House Targaryen via a succession war dubbed the “Dance of the Dragons.” The inaugural 10-episode season first aired from August to October 2022. Season 2 was green-lit shortly after the premiere episode scored 10 million viewers, making it HBO’s biggest series premiere ever.

Production on House of the Dragon Season 2 began in April at Leavesden Studios. The series was not impacted by the WGA strike, as the scripts were completed months prior. Furthermore, showrunner Ryan Condal only worked on set in a producer capacity. Production was also unaffected by the SAG-AFTRA strike, as the cast was working under the UK guild Equity contract.

Who will return in House of the Dragon Season 2?

Series regulars set to return for Season 2 include Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. New additions to the cast for Season 2 include Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, and Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull.

House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres in the summer of 2024 on HBO. No official release date has been announced at the time of this writing.
