Marvel’s Echo Trailer Previews Maya Lopez’s Next MCU Adventure

Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Echo.

The first trailer for Marvel Studios’ Echo reintroduces fans to Maya Lopez, the character who made her breakout debut in 2021’s Hawkeye. The upcoming MCU miniseries will see Maya return to her hometown and explore her origins while she also has to deal with her adopted “uncle,” (the now one-eyed) Kingpin.

What is Echo about?

“Streaming exclusively on Disney+, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown,” the synopsis reads. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”

Echo stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, and Charlie Cox as Daredevil/Matt Murdock. Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, Cody Lightning, Devery Jacobs, and Zahn McClarnon also star in the series.

Created by Marion Dayre, Echo is directed by Sydney Freehand and Catriona McKenzie. The series was initially announced in March 2021, with production having occurred in the summer of 2022.

In a video posted on Twitter by Caiden Reed in November 2022, D’Onofrio confirmed the events of Echo will lead directly into Daredevil: Born Again, which was originally expected to release in the spring of 2024 but has been delayed because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.

“How I approach the character [of Kingpin], it’s, like, full-on in the last few episodes of [Echo]. It’s going to be quite something,” D’Onofio said. “That leads into, of course, Born Again.”

All five episodes of Echo will drop on Disney+ on January 10, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU. It will also be available to watch on Hulu until April 9, 2023.
