Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, co-directors of Marvel Studios‘ upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, are very early in the process but getting ready to find the tone and lay the foundation of the Disney+ series.
In an interview with TheWrap, Benson and Moorhead emphasized that they’re at “day zero” after taking over as directors on Daredevil: Born Again. “We … just found out we have an office about 45 minutes ago,” said Benson to illustrate the point, adding, “And that’s what we’re at with Daredevil.”
The directing duo, who have experience in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s TV lineup after helming four episodes of Loki Season 2 and two episodes of Moon Knight, are currently researching various iterations of the iconic character of Matt Murdock/Daredevil. “We’re currently just consuming Daredevil content, not just the Netflix show but all the possible material,” said Moorhead. “We’re just making our stew of information nice and thick.”
A behind-the-scenes shakeup on Daredevil: Born Again
Benson and Moorhead were recently brought onto Daredevil: Born Again when Marvel executives reviewed footage that had been filmed and decided to change direction with the Charlie Cox-led series. Dario Scardapane, executive producer on both seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil spin-off The Punisher, was tapped as the new showrunner. The original showrunners, Chris Ord and Matt Corman, are still attached as executive producers.
In Daredevil: Born Again, Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock from the Netflix Daredevil series. Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal are also returning as, respectively, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin and Frank Castle/The Punisher.
The first season of Born Again will consist of 18 episodes. Production began in New York City early in 2023 but was interrupted by the concurrent strikes of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA). Both strikes have now concluded, but an updated release window for Daredevil: Born Again has not yet been announced.
