Marvel Zombies, an animated What If…? spin-off coming to Disney+, will see Iman Vellani‘s Ms. Marvel act as the “Frodo of the story.”
Speaking with The Direct, Vellani revealed that her MCU character, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, will be “kind of the center” of the upcoming Marvel Zombies series.
“We’ve done the whole thing,” Vellani said. “It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love … There are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.’”
She added, “And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey. And, yes, they’re only the voices, and I don’t get to hear their voices in real time. But just, it’s my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it’s just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”
What do we know about Marvel Zombies?
Announced in 2021, Marvel Zombies is an upcoming spin-off set in the same universe as the “What If…Zombies?!” episode of Marvel Studios What If…? series.
At San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) in 2022, it was confirmed the series will be rated TV-MA. Yelena Belva, Kate Bishop, Jimmy Woo, Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Death Dealer, Red Guardian, and Katy Chen will all join together to fight off the undead in the series, while zombified versions of Hawkeye, Abomination, Ghost, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Okoye, and Ikaris will also appear.
Further plot details remain under wraps at this time. Marvel Zombies does not yet have an official release date from Marvel. The second season of Marvel’s What If…?, however, launches on Disney+ on December 22, 2023.
