Twilight of the Gods: Zack Snyder Reveals Details About His Norse Mythology Anime

Zack Snyder has revealed new details about Twilight of the Gods, his upcoming Norse mythology-based anime series coming to Netflix.

Speaking with Collider at CCXP, Snyder discussed his upcoming Twilight of the Gods anime series, which was originally announced in 2021.

“It’s basically this: there’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married,” Snyder said. “An event happens to them at their wedding that causes Sigrid, who is the bride to be, who is the child of giants, to go on a crazy mission of revenge. She enlists a cast of characters – a seer, a dwarf – and they come together to form a band that has this one mission to find a god and fight him. It’s a mission, it’s a revenge story. Sigrid is this beautiful, very Scandinavian kind of cold but passionate character that I’ve really enjoyed working through and with because she’s just so cool. Sylvia Hoeks voices her.”

He additionally mentioned the series will have “a lot of sex” in it “because that’s fun.”

Who else has been cast in Twilight of the Gods?

In addition to Hoeks, Twilight of the Gods’ vocal cast includes Pilou Asbæk, Stuart Martin, John Noble, Paterson Joseph, Rahul Kohli, Kristofer Hivju, Jamie Clayton, Jamie Chung, Peter Stormare, Corey Stoll, and Lauren Cohan.

Snyder also confirmed the first season of Twilight of the Gods will have eight episodes. “I just think that it was one of these things that we kind of did not understand, first of all, the rigors of what it would take to make eight episodes of animation,” he said. “If I had known, I don’t know if I would have done it.”

Twilight of the Gods does yet not have an official release date from Netflix. Meanwhile, Snyder’s next movie, Rebel Moon (also known as Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire), is getting a limited theatrical release on December 15 before it hits Netflix on December 22, 2023.
