Gen V renewed season 2 The Boys

Gen V Composer Reveals What Makes Marie’s Theme Unique

Prime Video’s The Boys spin-off Gen V stars Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, whose thematic background music sets her apart from other characters in the franchise, according to composer Matt Bowen.

Bowen, who also worked on the music for The Boys, spoke to Heroic Hollywood about crafting Gen V’s score. Asked about differences between the two related projects, Bowen said, “…We brought in a female vocalist, but not just use it texturally or in an ambient way, but we carried the main character’s theme, Marie, on vocals.” He went on to explain, “That may not really feel like that big of a swing to somebody, but coming from The Boys, it’s just absolutely something we would never do on that show.”

How Gen V shakes up the premise of The Boys

Gen V is the first live-action spin-off of The Boys, which is based on a series of comics of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The franchise is set in a world where superheroes are real, but paid and promoted by a megacorporation, Vought International, which engineered the drug that imparts powers.

In Gen V, the central characters are young “supes” who are attending Vought’s Godolkin University, already immersed in the corporation’s propaganda as they prepare for lives under the spotlight. Sinclair’s Marie was orphaned in her early teens and is initially thrilled to be accepted into Godolkin. However, her freshman year quickly turns harrowing as Vought’s dark secrets threaten her and her new friends, as does Marie’s power to manipulate and weaponize her own blood.

Season 1 of Gen V and the first three seasons of The Boys are now streaming on Prime Video. The Boys Season 4 will premiere in 2024; a release window for Gen V Season 2 has not yet been revealed.
