New images from the canceled Game of Thrones spin-off with Naomi Watts have emerged online.
On Instagram, via GamesRadar, hair and makeup designer Flora Moody shared some images captured from her time working on the canceled Game of Thrones spin-off series that would’ve starred Watts.
“From personal tests in the hair/makeup truck to camera tests with full props, costume and lighting,” Moody’s caption reads. “This is a chance to play with shape, proportion in the wig. To see how the makeup reads on film. To work together to find the character that portrays the directors vision. Collaboration is KEY! This was an unaired Game of Thrones Prequel that I shot 4 years ago with the wonderful [Watts].”

What do we know about the canceled Game of Thrones spin-off with Naomi Watts?
In June 2018, HBO greenlit a Game of Thrones prequel series from writer Jane Goldman starring Watts. The series would’ve reportedly been set thousands of years before Game of Thrones and would’ve weaved in “issues of race, power, intrigue, and White Walkers,” according to a 2019 article shared by Deadline.
A pilot, directed by Madame Web’s S. J. Clarkson, was filmed; however, it was not well received. While the pilot episode was being re-edited in post-production, the series was ultimately canceled by HBO in October 2019.
So far, the only Game of Thrones spin-off that has come to fruition is House of the Dragon, which premiered in August 2020 and is returning for its second season later this year. A number of other spin-off series are in various stages of development, including several animated shows. Release dates have not yet been set for any other Game of Thrones spin-off shows.
All eight seasons of Game of Thrones are currently streaming on Max.
