Dead Boy Detectives will be released on Netflix in April 2024.
Per Variety, Netflix has announced that Dead Boy Detectives will premiere on the streaming platform on April 25, 2024. The series’ first season will consist of eight episodes.
“Meet Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), ‘the brains’ and ‘the brawn’ behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency,” the official synopsis reads. “Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts… who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.”
Dead Boy Detectives is set in the same universe as The Sandman, which was in August 2022. The series was originally intended for Max; however, it moved to Netflix in 2023.
Who are the Dead Boy Detectives?
The Dead Boy Detectives were created by Neil Gaiman, Matt Wagner, and Malcolm Jones III. They first appeared in 1991’s The Sandman #25, as they were featured in a “Seasons of the Mist” storyline that went on for multiple issues. They’ve since appeared in a number of other Sandman-related series, along with their own comics.
Dead Boy Detectives also stars Jenn Lyon, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage, and David Iacono.
The series was developed by Steve Yockey, who also serves as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Beth Schwartz additionally serves as an executive producer and co-showrunner, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Gaiman, and Jeremy Carver are also executive producers.
Dead Boy Detectives releases on Netflix on April 25, 2024. The first season of The Sandman, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Netflix, while another is currently in development.
