Lanterns DCU Series Gets HBO Order, James Gunn & Peter Safran Issue Statement

HBO announced it has ordered a Lanterns DCU series for HBO, officially setting the stage for one of the more iconic superheroes in DC’s roster to arrive in the DCU.

The series order is for eight episodes, with Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country) serving as showrunner and executive producer of the series.

As previously reported, Emmy-winner Damon Lindelöf (Watchmen, The Leftovers) and Eisner Award-winning writer Tom King (Supergirl) will co-write the series with Mundy as well.

What do we know about DCU’s Lanterns?

As of now, nothing is really known about the series, but a brief logline states that the series will follow “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

“We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and LANTERNS brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with ‘Superman,'” said James Gunn and Peter Safran, Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs of DC Studios.

No casting information has yet been announced at this time.
