Square Enix Premieres the New Trailer for Marvel’s Avengers

This year’s E3 celebration has already boasted plenty of exciting video game announcements. But when Square Enix took the stage, they definitely saved the best for last. The publisher capped off its hour-long presentation with the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers, developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest.

The trailer kicks off with an Avengers Day celebration in San Francisco to ring in the opening of the team’s new West Coast headquarters. Unfortunately, the festivities are short-lived, as an explosion on the Golden Gate Bridge spurs the heroes into action. Most of the team (Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow) fights armored soldiers on the bridge. However, Captain America stands alone against additional forces on a nearby helicarrier. The battle culminates in a detonation onboard the helicarrier that appears to cost Cap his life.

Crystal Dynamics’ Creative Director Shaun Escayg and Marvel Games’ Vice President Bill Rosemann were also on hand to explain the game’s premise. Five years after A-Day, the Avengers have disbanded. But when a new threat emerges, the surviving members have no choice but to reunite.

“You will instantly recognize your favorite superheroes and villains,” said Rosemann. “But you’ll also see that they’re unique to this game, as this is Crystal’s interpretation of these iconic characters.”

“Most importantly, this is a story about self-acceptance in the face of adversity,” added Escayg. “About embracing our individual powers and learning that together, we are mighty.”

The developers also introduced the the game’s all-star cast. Marvel’s Avengers features the voice talents of Troy Baker (Bruce Banner), Jeff Schine (Captain America), Travis Willingham (Thor), Laura Bailey (Black Widow), and Nolan North (Tony Stark).

According to Crystal Dynamics’ Senior Community and Social Media Manager Meagan Marie, Marvel’s Avengers “delivers a narrative over multiple years, with exciting new content released at a regular basis.” This includes new characters, enemies, and regions added over time. The best part? All of these extras will become available at no additional cost. Additionally, PlayStation users will receive early access to the game’s beta.

Marvel’s Avengers arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020. You can watch the new trailer below, then tell us what you think in the comment section!
