Spider-Man: Miles Morales Pits Peter and Miles Against a Sinister Six Member

Last month, Insomniac Games premiered new footage from Spider-Man: Miles Morales that revealed the Tinkerer as the game’s primary antagonist. But as expected, Miles will have to square off against a few other villains along the way, and one of these will require an extra set of hands. Or perhaps we should say webs, because some of the game’s earliest levels will have Miles and Peter Parker teaming up against a member of the Sinister Six.

This news comes from the latest Game Informer (via io9), which includes an interview with Insomniac creative director Brian Horton. Insomniac debuted their own version of the Sinister Six in Spider-Man PS4 in 2018. The team was led by Doctor Octopus and also included Mister Negative, Electro, Scorpion, Rhino, and Vulture. Horton didn’t specify which supervillain is making an appearance in Miles Morales. However, we can probably rule out Doc Ock and Mister Negative. After all, those two characters played larger roles than any other villain in the original game, and Insomniac seems committed to making the follow-up feel as fresh as possible.

Horton also shared the reason why Peter is absent from most of the game. Apparently, the OG Spidey will leave NYC to join Mary Jane Watson on a Daily Bugle reporting trip. Miles is then left to watch over the city on his own, a task that intimidates him at first. But fortunately, his best friend Ganke Lee is there to help him out. Ganke even develops the Friendly Neighborhood Spider App to help Miles keep tabs on crime throughout New York.

As we already knew, the bulk of Miles Morales’ story takes place in Harlem. Horton went on to explain how vital this location is to the game’s narrative.

“I’d like to say Harlem is one of the most important characters in our game,” said Horton. “Harlem really has a pulse, and is what Miles is fighting for. What we decided is Harlem and the people he loves are the heart and soul of this game. Miles getting to know his neighborhood was essential.”

Just like its predecessor, Miles Morales will also feature a handful of bonus suits that players can unlock over time. There’s the Gift Suit, a proto-costume that resembles his early look in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Additionally, gamers can don the 2020 Suit, which boasts technological enhancements that should come in handy against the Tinkerer and her crew.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales hits PS4 and PS5 on November 12.
