Dotemu & Tribute Games Reveal TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge

During the late ’80s and early ’90s, Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games brought the comics and the original animated series to life. Now, the TMNT are getting an old school video game comeback courtesy of Dotemu.

Via IGN, Dotemu and Nickelodeon have teamed up for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. The new co-op game was developed by Tribute Games, the team behind Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. Although this title isn’t a direct port of the previous TMNT games, it clearly takes its cues from its predecessors. As seen in the announcement video below, the side scrolling game recreates a few locations from the past. There’s also a callback to Turtles In Time‘s famous “throw the enemy towards the screen” gimmick.

Most of the game is based on the 1987 TMNT series, with the familiar versions of the Turtles, as well as their foes. However, April O’Neil seems to have moved on from being a damsel in distress. Instead, she actually takes out two Foot soldiers by herself.

Additionally, Faith No More’s Mike Patton recorded a new version of the classic TMNT theme for the game. Dotemu hasn’t announced a release date yet. But Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will hit PC and consoles when it launches.
