Lucasfilm Games Announces Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Nearly two decades after revolutionizing Star Wars gaming, Knights of the Old Republic is getting remastered for next-gen consoles. Lucasfilm Games has announced that it is teaming up with Aspyr on a remake of the beloved Star Wars RPG.

During today’s Playstation event, Lucasfilm Games also premiered a short teaser for the remake. Unfortunately, it doesn’t actually include any in-game footage or a release window. Instead, it reveals the familiar masked face of Darth Revan while a narrator warns of the threat he poses. Given her British accent, we can probably assume the narrator is Bastila Shan, a key Jedi character from the original game. Regardless, it’s not clear if Jennifer Hale is returning to provide her voice for the remake. Check out the preview below.

Originally released on Xbox and PC in 2003, Knights of the Old Republic introduced Star Wars fans to a previously unexplored corner of the franchise. Set 4,000 years before the Skywalker Saga, the game has players controlling a character of their own design as they learn the ways of the Force and travel from planet to planet in search of the mysterious Star Forge before Revan’s apprentice, Darth Malak, can harness its power and take over the galaxy.

One of the game’s most notable features was that it allowed players to make choices that determined their allegiance to the Light Side or Dark Side. Additionally, the surprise twist that happens near the end of the story remains one of the most talked-about moments in Star Wars history. Although BioWare developed the original KOTOR, Obsidian Entertainment led the charge on its sequel, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords, which hit stores in 2004.
