In a little over a week, WB Games Montréal will host its own panel at DC FanDome to share new details about Gotham Knights. But before that happens, the studio has teased their highly-anticipated presentation with a brand new promo image. Released via the game’s official Twitter page, the photo shows the charred remains of an issue of the Gotham Gazette. The headline delivers the tragic news that the city’s favorite son, billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, has died. Check it out for yourself below.

WB Montréal originally teased Bruce’s death in Gotham Knights’ announcement trailer, which debuted during last year’s FanDome event. His sudden demise is also what ends up spurring his crime-fighting partners (Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood) to become Gotham’s new protectors. And for their first mission, they’ll have to uncover the mystery behind the Court of Owls.

What’s interesting is that the newspaper’s headline claims that Bruce was killed after Wayne Manor collapsed in a “freak accident.” Although the game reportedly takes place in a continuity separate from Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series, this sounds an awful lot like how Batman: Arkham Knight ended in 2015. That game’s conclusion memorably saw Bruce returning to his ancestral home after his secret identity was revealed on live television. As soon as he closed the door behind him, the mansion exploded, seemingly killing Bruce and Alfred alongside him.
Gotham Knights will hit PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Microsoft Windows sometime in 2022.
