October 25 still seems like a long way away. But now superhero-loving gamers have a better idea what to expect when it finally arrives. In Gotham Knights, players take on the role of either Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, or Batgirl, in the wake of Batman’s apparent death. And it seems they’ll have to save their city from the Court of Owls. Trailer footage looks fun so far, but that can often mislead. So today we get a look at some actual Gotham Knights gameplay, showing off what Nightwing and Red Hood can do.
In a city as vast as Gotham, travel shortcuts can be had. Nightwing can fly around on a trapeze-style glider that responds to his summons, while Red Hood can levitate on mystical energy. All characters have access to a Batcycle for some car chase actions. And Hood’s guns fire non-lethal rounds, but he can also attach bombs to people and detonate them at a distance. Characters include stealth attacks for sneaking around more quietly, and augmented reality abilities like in the Arkham games.

In a nifty nods to the larger DC Multiverse, we even learn that one area of the city is called Otisburg. Justice for the late Ned Beatty. Plus Dick Grayson at one point utters a very 1966-ish catchphrase.
Got 13.5 minutes to watch it? Here you go…
Bad news for those without current-gen consoles, though. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game got canceled. It’s now PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC only.
