Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster’s Improvements

The new trailer showcases the game’s improved textures, lighting, graphics, and gameplay. Side-by-side comparisons illustrate its transformation from classic 90s pixel art to more painterly renderings. The trailer also notes that Dark Forces includes added support for modern gamepad controls, unique to each type. Additionally, the FPS features ten weapons and twenty kinds of enemies.

A synopsis from the press release reads: “In this first Star Wars FPS video game, players assume the role of Kyle Katarn, a defector of the Galactic Empire turned mercenary for hire. Katarn joins the Rebel Alliance’s covert operations division tasked with infiltrating the Galactic Empire, where he discovers the secret Dark Trooper Project. The development of this powerful new series of Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers stands to strengthen the Empire’s grip on the galaxy unless Katarn and the Rebel Alliance intervene.”

Besides Dark Forces, Nightdive Studios recently released the System Shock Remaster. Another classic 90s game, System Shock is considered a grandfather to similar story games like BioShock. A remaster for the sequel, System Shock 2, is scheduled for release in 2024. Soon, Nightdive also plans to launch a remaster of Turok 3.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster launches February 28 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
