Video game publisher Ziggurat has enlisted comic book creators Anthony “Ant” Williams (Judge Dredd) and Andy Lanning (Guardians of the Galaxy) to craft tie-in comics for its upcoming hack-and-slash biopunk title Slave Zero X.
According to Ziggurat, Williams and Lanning’s comics will be part of the deluxe edition of Slave Zero X — which is due to release on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles this coming February. (The physical deluxe edition also includes things like a guidebook, postcards, and control cards.) Williams and Lanning have collaborated before, most notably on the DC Elseworlds titles The Superman Monster and Batman: Two Faces.
What is Slave Zero X about?
Slave Zero X is developed by Poppy Works and written by Miles Luna (RWBY). The 2.5D hack-and-slash game serves as prequel to the cult-favorite third-person shooter title Slave Zero. Developed and published by Infogrames North America, the original Slave Zero released for PC and Sega Dreamcast in North America in 1999. The game made its way to Europe in 2000.
“From the top of Megacity S1-9, the Sovereign Khan rules with fists of iron and flesh,” an official synopsis for the upcoming prequel reads. “Beneath the city’s rotting foundations, a vengeful warrior embarks on a journey to murder him. 4 years prior to the events of Slave Zero, Slave Zero X brings new life to a world where horrific, living machines known as Slaves are primed to become the latest tools of war in humanity’s long and bloody history. A secret band of warriors known as The Guardians hope to stop these biomecha from being unleashed upon the world, but one swordsman among their ranks has a different idea: use the enemy’s own weapon against them. By merging with a stolen Slave Unit Prototype, Shou will become a furious Devil in pursuit of killing a false God.”
Slave Zero X releases on February 21, 2024 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
