The next big Dark Horse adaptation is in the works at Netflix. According to Deadline, the streaming service has greenlit a movie based on Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich’s Lady Killer. Blake Lively will star in the film, with Oscar winner Diablo Cody penning the script.
Writer/artist Jones and co-writer Rich launched Lady Killer in 2015. The series centered on Josie Schuller, who initially appears to be the “perfect” housewife living in 1950s America. But unbeknownst to her husband and children, she secretly works as an assassin for the mafia. Lively will headline the film as Josie. Additionally, she’s producing the film through her B for Effort production banner alongside Kate Vorhoff. Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg are producing as well.
Netflix previously signed a pact with Dark Horse in 2019 that gives them first dibs on any adaptations of their comic titles. The streamer has already enjoyed a great deal of success with its live-action take on The Umbrella Academy, whose third season is currently in development. Netflix also released an adaptation of Dark Horse’s Polar in 2019.

Lively most recently appeared in The Rhythm Section, which hit theaters before the pandemic struck last year. Meanwhile, Cody is writing and executive producing The CW’s live-action Powerpuff TV series, which has yet to get a full series order. She’s also working with Universal on a biopic about Madonna.
