Spider-Man: No Way Home Hits 3rd Place All-Time Domestic

In less than two months after its release, Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the 3rd place all-time domestic box office champion. Via Variety, No Way Home passed $760.9 million on Monday, pushing it past James Cameron’s Avatar. However, this is likely as far as Spidey can climb domestically. The top two all-time domestic record holders are Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $936 million, and Avengers: Endgame with $858 million. No Way Home hits.

As for Avatar, it’s status as the all-time worldwide box office champion is secure at $2.802 billion. While No Way Home‘s international box office has also been phenomenal, it currently sits at $1.8 billion worldwide. That’s extremely impressive, given that it never opened in China. Regardless, it’s unlikely to break $2 billion worldwide without a Chinese release.

Variety also notes that No Way Home‘s domestic take is more than three times the $224 million that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings pulled in. And that movie was the second highest grossing domestic film of 2021. The Marvel brand remains strong even in the pandemic, but Spidey is an icon unto himself. There were also some returning cast members that helped push this sequel into the stratosphere. It would be extremely difficult to recreate that success.

At the moment, No Way Home‘s final domestic box office is estimated to reach about $785 million. Its momentum has slowed down over the past few weeks, but it topped the box office charts in six out of its nine weekends. Sony hasn’t formally announced digital and Blu-ray release dates for the film yet. However, that information will likely come this month.
