Ms. Marvel Gets Disney+ Release Date and First Trailer

It’s official — the first Marvel Cinematic Universe production to be both female led and present-day set, give or take the canonical status of Jessica Jones, comes to Disney+ on June 8. Ms. Marvel sees a Muslim girl from New Jersey, who fangirls hard for Captain Marvel Carol Danvers, gain new powers. And in a change likely to cause some debate, her powers differ somewhat from the comics. She’s still able to make big fists, but seems to be using cosmic energy in new ways otherwise.

We also get schooled in how to pronounce Kamala Khan’s first name. It’s Kuh-MAH-la, like the ’80s wrestling superstar, as opposed to KAH-meh-la, like the current vice president. Take a look in the player below:

The speech bubble effects, seemingly inspired by the likes of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and The Mitchells vs. The Machines, take the Spider-Man hand-drawn end credits a step further. It’ll be interesting to see if those continue throughout the show.

Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, with Aramis Knight as Red Dagger, Saagar Shaikh as Amir Khan, Rish Shah as Kamran, Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan. Loki writer Bisha K. Ali serves as creator and head writer.
