Jared Leto can be seen climbing the Empire State Building in a new video shared online.
Shared by the Empire State Building’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the video sees the Morbius star ascending to the top of the iconic New York City landmark on the morning of Thursday, November 9, 2023.
Leto discussed the feat with TODAY, saying, “I was more excited than nervous to tell you the truth. But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took, and it was very sharp.”
According to TODAY, Leto is the first person to legally climb to the top of the Empire State Building.
Why did Jared Leto climb the Empire State Building?
Leto said that climbing the skyscraper was something that’s long been on his bucket list. He also did it to promote Thirty Seconds to Mars’ upcoming tour, which runs from March to September in 2024.
“It’s incredible,” he continued. “To watch the sunrise overlooking the city that’s meant so much to me. Ever since I was a kid, New York stood for the place that you went to make your dreams come true. And as a young kid, I wanted to be an artist, and New York was the place that you came to be an artist. And the Empire State Building was always that symbol for me.”
Upon arriving at the top, Leto said a familiar face was waiting for him there. “I made it to the top, and I was just saying, I saw my mother in the window of the 80th floor, and that was a nice surprise,” he explained.
Leto is known for starring in 1999’s Fight Club, 2000’s Requiem for a Dream, 2012’s Dallas Buyers Club, 2016’s Suicide Squad, 2021’s House of Gucci, and 2022’s Morbius. He most recently appeared in 2023’s Haunted Mansion and will soon appear in Disney’s upcoming Tron: Legacy sequel, Tron: Ares.
