Karen Fukuhara and Erin Moriarty, who respectively play Kimiko and Annie/Starlight in The Boys, are interested in appearing in the spin-off series Gen V.
As reported by The Direct, the two actors were on a panel at L.A. Comic Con and answered a question about whether they would want to be in Gen V. Fukuhara stated that the possibility of a crossover involving Kimiko had already come up between her and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke. She also included Kimiko’s closest friend, Tomer Capone’s Frenchie, in her reply: “Yes, I’ve already talked to [Eric] Kripke about it. I don’t know how, but I think Frenchie and Kimiko need to make an appearance somehow. I mean, they must be on a mission somewhere in that world, right?”
Moriarty’s response was an equally enthusiastic “Hell yes.” She went on to note, “I’m all for, like — [Kripke] is gonna sprinkle in those characters, not just cause. Not just to get people to watch it. It’s never going to be arbitrary. It’s going to be purposeful, right?” She emphasized her passion for the role, saying, “I want to stay in this universe, in some iteration. I’d stay in it forever. But I think there would be a cool way to enter it when the time is right for our kinds of presence in that world.”
Kimiko and Starlight, the “good” supes of The Boys universe
The Boys, based on a series of comics of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, premiered on Prime Video in 2019. The show imagines a world in which superheroes are real, but paid and promoted by a megacorporation, so that many of them have become selfish, spoiled public idols. Fukuhara and Moriarty have both been mainstays since Season 1, playing women from very different backgrounds who have unwillingly obtained superpowers and now attempt to use them for good.
The first live-action spin-off, Gen V, focuses on young supes who are attending Godolkin University and are already immersed in Vought International’s propaganda as they prepare for lives under the spotlight. Another spin-off was recently announced, tentatively titled The Boys: Mexico.
Season 1 of Gen V and the first three seasons of The Boys are now streaming on Prime Video. The Boys Season 4 will premiere in 2024; a release window for Gen V Season 2 has not yet been revealed.
