Not every Batman needs a Robin, as most of the live-action movies tend to remind us by omission, but the Golden Age DC Comics Batman definitely does. Introduced as a character young readers could more easily identify with, the Boy Wonder begat an entire trend of teenage sidekicks and ultimately inspired Burt Ward to deliver a Holy interpretation on live-action TV. Mezco already made a Golden Age Batman, so his buddy was overdue. As of today, though, preorders have started flying out like some sort of small, red bird…if only there were a name for such a thing.
Tights and Fights
As One: 12 figures go, Robin’s on the cheaper side, at $90 (yes, that’s the cheaper end), due to being smaller than most and having fewer fancy accessories. His best pack-in is a punching effect with an optional clip-on impact balloon. But he looks the part, just like a classic illustration come to life or the animated opening credits of the 1966 Adam West-Burt Ward TV show.
Robin comes with nine different hands, one permanently attached to a spinning sling effect. He also has a punch swoosh effect, punch impact effect, respirator, handcuffs, grappling hook with poseable wire, base, stand, and six Batarangs. As expected, his cape includes wires for posing, which is essential for all those sideways-shot building-climbing scenes. Robin also features three different heads, so you can have him look peeved, happy, or like he’s saying something to Batman. Holy interactivity!
And is it just us, or has that hairdo come back around in style again?
Preorders begin as of now, with a nonrefundable deposit of $22.50. Expect delivery sometime in late summer or later than that. Mezco sometimes takes time to get things just right.
