Chris Evans has starred in almost 10 projects set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the former Captain America star does have a particular favorite Marvel Studios film.
Speaking during a recent appearance at Emerald City Con 2024 (via Total Film), Evans revealed that 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier was actually his favorite Marvel movie to be a part of.
The critically acclaimed film was not only his favorite for the movie itself, but also the fact that he was settled in as Captain America by that time.
“It’s my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of. It’s not just for the movie itself but the experience,” Evans said. “The first film, I was so nervous. You know what you’re stepping into and as a result you’re playing defense and you’re playing not to lose. When ‘Winter Solider’ came around, we were playing to win. And it’s the first movie with the Russo Brothers. We were taking more risks, and the character felt more fleshed out. It was one of the more satisfying experiences I’ve had in my Marvel run.”
Evans had a long history as Captain America
Winter Soldier saw Evans take up the mantle as Captain America for the third time following his debut in the 2011 MCU film Captain America: The First Avenger and the 2012 ensemble film The Avengers.
Following Winter Soldier, Evans would go on to appear in seven more MCU projects via starring role or cameo. His final turn as Captain America came in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
While Evans seems to be done with the world of the MCU, the actor hasn’t completely shut the door on a return. During an appearance at the 2023 C2E2 convention, Evans once again reiterated that, while there probably are more Steve Rogers stories to tell, it’s a “tough” thing to do due to how precious the character is to him.
“God, it’s tough. Look, I love that role deeply, it means so much to me. Do I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories to tell? Sure, but at the same time, I’m very very precious about it,” Evans said (via The Pop Verse), while also noting that accepting the role of Captain America was “the best decision of my life.”
