Before he was cast as Clark Kent/Superman, actor David Corenswet reportedly auditioned for the role of Adam Warlock in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Responding to a fan on the social media platform Threads, Gunn confirmed the rumor floating around online that Corenswet auditioned to play Adam Warlock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role that ultimately went to Will Poulter. “I asked him about it and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it,” Gunn revealed, sharing that he has no recollection of Corenswet’s Adam Warlock audition.
Marvel’s loss is DC’s gain
While Corenswet missed out on joining the MCU, the actor is now set to portray the biggest superhero in the world, Superman, in his upcoming 2025 reboot movie. While plot details remain under wraps, Gunn previously stated that Superman — which will be the first movie released in the DCU — will follow the titular hero as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing.
The reboot will also avoid retelling Superman’s origin story in favor of picking up with Clark Kent already operating as the Man of Steel in Metropolis while working at the Daily Planet alongside Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) and Perry White (Wendell Pierce).
The rest of the Superman cast includes Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.
Superman has been in production since February 29, 2024, and is not expected to wrap until late July/early August.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is available to stream on Disney+ while Superman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
