Spider-Man: No Way Home star Jacob Batalon remembers how special it was to work with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield on their first set day together.
“Working on that scene specifically was such a delight because Andrew and Tobey are super great,” Batalon said to ComicBook.com regarding the scene when his character Ned Leeds used Doctor Strange’s sling ring to bring the Spider-Man variants into the MCU installment.
“I remember thinking that it was probably one of those moments where people will probably be talking about it for a long time. It was really fun. I feel like that was probably the time where I kind of got to know them the most.”
No Way Home’s multiverse-centric premise allowed for the MCU’s Spider-Man (Tom Holland) to meet Maguire and Garfield’s variants from past Sony Spider-Man productions. The significance of bringing the Spider-Man stars together was not lost on the rest of the cast who did their best to remain professional throughout the shoot.
“I think everyone on set knew it was really special. It had never been done before. I feel like everyone understood the gravity of the moment, but we also kept it really light,” Batalon said. “At that point in filming, because we were working during the pandemic, we were just all grateful to be there.”
Will Ned Leeds be back in Spider-Man 4?
As Sony and Marvel Studios are in active development on a fourth Spider-Man installment where the Wall Crawler’s friends have no memory of him after No Way Home, Batalon remains in the dark about Ned Leeds’ return as fans speculate a potential sinister turn into the Hobgoblin. “I honestly don’t know. I don’t know what any future holds for any of them in that world,” Batalon said. “I just feel like if things happen, they happen. I hope so. I definitely hope so. It’s sad that he has no friends anymore.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now streaming on Disney+.
