After Mephisto was introduced in the MCU in Ironheart, the debate about who is stronger between Mephisto and Dormammu has already started circulating among fans. This happened primarily because Riri mistook Mephisto for Dormammu in the final episode where they met.
But Mephisto seemed to laugh it off and claimed that Dormammu was nowhere near his equal. Is Mephisto really that much stronger than Dormammu?
Is Mephisto really stronger than Dormammu?
Though Mephisto seemingly claimed that Dormammu was nothing compared to him, this would not be true if one were to look at the comics. Both entities are very strong. Both of them are also kings, with the former ruling over Hell and the latter ruling over the Dark Dimension. However, without complete exposure to Mephisto’s powers in the cinematic version, there is no true way of knowing the result of this ancient rivalry.
Dormammu previously appeared in Doctor Strange, and he was extremely strong. So, if the MCU gives as much power to Mephisto, or more, there could be a serious debate.
As for their comic counterparts, Dormammu would easily beat Mephisto. Mephisto is a powerful demonic lord whose powers grow as he collects souls. But Dormammu is a cosmic entity with the capability of consuming entire dimensions. Moreover, Doctor Strange could not even beat Dormammu and had to lock him in a time loop to defeat him.
But this may not be the case with Mephisto if he comes face-to-face with the sorcerer. So, Dormammu is definitely stronger than Mephisto if they get their comic-accurate powers. Perhaps when Mephisto makes a longer and more prominent appearance in the MCU, fans will find out more about what he is capable of.
