Exclusive Preview: Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1956 #4

Hellboy is missing somewhere in Mexico, and the B.P.R.D. is embroiled in a Cold War of its own. Mike Mignola has re-teamed with writer Chris Roberson to explore the previously untold tales of the B.P.R.D.’s history in Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. miniseries. Artists Yishan Li, Mike Norton, and Michael Avon Oeming have contributed interlocking stories that are rapidly coming together. However, Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, has stumbled upon a hidden British Special Intelligence Directorate outpost in the U.S., where occult technology is being weaponized. Unfortunately, Bruttenholm and his friend, Jacob Stegner, have already been discovered by Roland Childe, an enemy agent who is willing to take them out.

In Superhero Hype’s exclusive preview for Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. #4, Bruttenholm’s story takes a tragic turn, and not everyone is going to make it out alive. His only hope is the enigmatic Varvara, the child-like leader of the Soviet Union’s occult team. Varvara’s physical appearance belies the fact that she is incredibly powerful. Nonetheless, she’s got problems of her own. There may even be a conspiracy within Varvara’s organization that wants to take her down by any means possible. Additionally, the B.P.R.D. is finally going to go searching for Hellboy.

Here’s the official description from Dark Horse Comics: “Bruttenholm’s secret investigation comes to an abrupt and tragic end, and Hellboy’s absence forces him to send B.P.R.D. agents to search for him in Mexico. Meanwhile, the conflict between Soviet occult team leader Varvara and her subordinates comes to a head!”
