All good comic book storylines must eventually come to an end. And soon, that will be the case for the long-running The Amazing Spider-Man daily syndicated strip. Artist Alex Saviuk has announced that the strip will conclude its current run this month. “March 23 will be the last Daily and Marcy 17 will be the last Sunday as we close out the current storyline,” said Saviuk.
The Amazing Spider-Man strip began in 1977, when Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. reunited after their long run on the Spidey comic. Since then, it went through a number of changes. Writer Roy Thomas and Saviuk were the latest creative team. However, the strip is not in danger of cancellation. King Features will run reruns of Spider-Man’s “greatest hits.”
King Features also shared the following statement. “You’ll be seeing some changes in your friendly neighborhood Amazing Spider-Man comic strip over the coming months. Starting on March 25, King Features and Marvel will be re-running some of Spider-Man’s greatest hits. We’ll be back soon with great new stories and art to explore even more corners of the Marvel Universe for you and your readers to enjoy. We’ll be announcing more about these new adventures in the very near future, so keep your Spidey senses tuned in!”

No official explanation has been provided regarding the removal of Saviuk and Thomas from the daily strip. According to CBR, the possibility of a complete overhaul came up following Stan Lee’s passing last year.
Thomas did say, “I know nothing of any Spidey strip to come, only that the one Alex Saviuk and I (and until recently Larry Lieber) had been doing is kaput.”
This truly marks the end of an era for some Spidey fans. Now the real question is when new installments of the strip will arrive.
