The impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic has reached the Hall of Justice and Avengers Mountain. Via Bleeding Cool and ComicBook.com, Diamond Comic Distributors is refusing to accept any more shipments of comics, toys, games, or merchandise for the foreseeable future. Considering that Diamond is the exclusive distributor for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Dynamite, BOOM! Studios, and others; this will effectively bring the comic book industry to a standstill.
Because several stores across the country are already closed over coronavirus fears, the industry had already taken a hit. Some stores have also offered curbside pickup to maintain their income. However, it appears that may no longer be an option after this week. Diamond will reportedly ship out the comics currently warehoused at its distribution centers. But beyond that, there are no plans to continue shipments until after the crisis has passed.

DC, Marvel, and other publishers have robust digital options for their comics through Comixology and other outlets. They may also keep releasing books digitally during Diamond’s hiatus. Alternatively, the comic companies could possibly find another temporary distributor. But for now, all plans are up in the air.
What do you think about Diamond’s decision? Will you switch to digital comics during the hiatus? Let us know in the comment section below!
