DC Reveals the All-Star Creative Lineup for Detective Comics #1027

Last year, DC rang in Batman’s 80th anniversary with an expanded 1,000th issue of Detective Comics. However, the Dark Knight didn’t actually appear in the series until issue #27 in 1939. That’s why DC is planning another milestone issue to celebrate the character’s impact on popular culture. Via CBR, DC has shared the full list of writers and artists who will be contributing to Detective Comics #1027.

Whereas Detective Comics #1000 was 96 pages, the upcoming 1027th issue will clock in at 144 pages. The book will also feature an all-star roster of creators who have tackled Batman’s adventures before. There will also be creators who are making their Gotham City debut. The linup includes Greg Rucka, Eduardo Risso, Grant Morrison, Chris Burnham, Tom King, Walt Simonson, James Tynion IV, Riley Rossmo, Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Walker, Dan Jurgens, Marv Wolfman, Emanuela Lupacchino, Bill Sienkiewicz, Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, Mariko Tamaki, Dan Mora, Scott Snyder, Ivan Reis, Kelly Sue DeConnick, John Romita Jr., Klaus Janson, Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky.

The issue’s main cover will feature art by Andy Kubert. However, DC will also release “tribute covers” by José Luis García-López, Jamal Campbell, Lee Bermejo and Jorge Jiménez. Additionally, there will be 10 variant covers that showcase some of Batman’s most famous allies and adversaries.

Detective #1027 has been a massive undertaking, and I’m really excited for fans to see what editors Paul Kaminski and Dave Wielgosz have in store come September,” Batman Group Editor Ben Abernathy said in a statement. “A great combination of writers and artists are putting in their best work on the book and fans should pay close attention to these stories, since some of them will plant the seeds for both Batman’s future and that of the DC universe.”

Detective Comics #1027 will hit comic shops on September 15. You can check out Kubert’s full artwork for the issue below, then share your thoughts in the comment section!
