Way back in 1993, writer and artist Mike Mignola introduced readers to Hellboy, “the World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator.” Over the years, Mignola and his creative collaborators have greatly expanded the universe beyond Hellboy, with spinoff series for B.P.R.D., Abe Sapien, and more. But next year, Dark Horse is taking an even deeper dive into the lore of Hellboy.
Superhero Hype is proud to exclusively announce that Hellboy Universe: The Secret Histories will be released in summer 2021. This hardcover edition will collect three of the side story miniseries: Rasputin: The Voice of the Dragon, Sledgehammer 44, and The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed. John Arcudi, Chris Roberson, Laurence Campbell, Christopher Mitten, Dave Stewart, and more collaborated with Mignola on these tales.

“These stories provide new insight into some fan favorite characters from the Hellboy universe,” said Hellboy editor Katii O’Brien in a statement. “As a reader, there’s a real joy in discovering these ‘lost’ tales, not only because we better understand the timeline for the Hellboy universe, but because we also get a fascinating new perspective into these characters and their motivations.”
Hellboy Universe: The Secret Histories will hit comic stores on June 2, 2021. A bookstore release will follow on June 15, 2021. Mignola and colorist Dave Stewart also created a new cover for the collection, which you can see below.
