Last week, Marvel began teasing an upcoming event dubbed Heroes Reborn with artwork showcasing new designs for classic characters. Now, the storyline is coming into focus. A new motion comic trailer gives fans an idea of what to expect from the Heroes Reborn event miniseries, which launches this spring.
This isn’t the first time that Marvel has used the Heroes Reborn title. The company famously launched another crossover under this banner in the mid-’90s, with Image co-founders Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld returning to Marvel and re-imagining several iconic characters. This time, however, Marvel is handing the keys to the kingdom over to writer Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuinness as an extension of their Avengers run. Together, Aaron and McGuinness will explore a world where the Avengers no longer exist as a team.
The story begins with Blade, a fairly recent addition to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, waking up in a world where his allies never formed the Avengers. Captain America has been presumed dead for decades, Tony Stark never built his Iron Man armor, and Thor is a misanthropic drunk. Regardless, humanity isn’t completely defenseless, as another superhero team has stepped up in the Avengers’ absence: the Squadron Supreme. In Aaron’s run, Phil Coulson and the Squadron Supreme are servants of Mephisto, Marvel’s Satan-like demon.

Throughout Heroes Reborn, readers will see these heroes face off against a new legion of enemies, including Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch and Thanos, now armed with a set of Infinity Rings. The series also features new takes on other characters, including Coulson, who is apparently the President of the United States. Wolverine also appears as the leader of a revamped Alpha Flight.
Heroes Reborn #1 goes on sale in May. You can watch the trailer for the series below, then share your thoughts in the comment section!
