Marvel’s The Trial of Magneto Kicks Off in August

The Hellfire Gala is still a month away, but we already know it’s not going to end well. A new teaser reveals that mutantkind’s impending celebration will leave at least one corpse in its wake. And all signs point to the master of magnetism being the culprit. The fallout from the shocking murder will unfold in the pages of The Trial of Magneto, debuting later this year.

Writer Leah Williams and artist Lucas Werneck are the creative team for this five-issue miniseries. Marvel isn’t sharing the murder victim’s identity or the nature of their demise just yet. In fact, that’s not happening until X-Factor #10 arrives on June 30. Regardless, the ramifications are far-reaching enough to “threaten the Reign of X” and bring mutant-human relations to a new boiling point.

“When has Magneto ever allowed bureaucracy to get between himself and what’s just?” said Williams. “In the island paradise of Krakoa, safe haven and home for mutants–Magneto’s hard-fought, greatest desire of seeing his people at peace and thriving has finally been achieved. But Magneto’s loyalty extends only as far as it is first earned, so after the Hellfire Gala, when he learns that even a paradise could still be filled with lies…the Trial of Magneto will begin.”

“I am so looking forward to working with Leah, especially with this project,” added Werneck. “Leah has incredible sensitivity in her writing and is able to craft stories that are layered and mysterious and fun for readers so I think she is perfect to write this story. Participating in the Hellfire Gala and now being invited to be part of this project is really a dream.”

The Trial of Magneto #1 hits comic shops on August 18.
