Marvel’s Iron Fist Miniseries Drafts a New Hero For the Mantle

Danny Rand’s days as the Immortal Iron Fist may be over (for now). But a new hero is about to burst onto the scene wielding the same Chi-focusing powers that turned Danny into a legend. After teasing the arrival of a new protector of K’un L’un earlier this week, Marvel has officially shared the first details for an upcoming Iron Fist five-issue limited series that introduces a mystery character who is following in Danny’s footsteps.

The conclusion of this year’s Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon miniseries found Danny giving up his power in order to save the world. However, it was only a matter of time before a new Iron Fist rose up in his stead. Marvel still isn’t divulging the character’s identity. Regardless, the announcement teases that he may have acquired his powers through unconventional means. Whatever the case, readers will follow along as he battles demons and unlocks new secrets behind the Iron Fist legend. According to series editor Mark Paniccia, there are “things even the most ardent Marvel fan would never expect!”

Iron Fist‘s creative team includes writer Alyssa Wong (Doctor Aphra) and artist Michael YG, who is making his Marvel debut. The series also features a significant contribution from artist Jim Cheung, who designed the new hero’s costume. You can view Cheung’s cover for the first issue below.

“It’s an incredible honor to introduce a new Iron Fist to the Marvel Universe,” said Wong. “I’m excited to delve into the comic’s rich mythos and build on it. What does it mean for someone to take up the mantle of the Iron Fist right now, today? As a newcomer, how does one interact with legacy, and how does one honor it while forging a new path? I’m so stoked to work with artist Michael YG, colorist Jay Ramos, and the rest of the incredible team on this book. And writing this character, who views things through fresh eyes, feels very special to me.”

“Working for Marvel is a dream come true, yet it was beyond any dream to be trusted to carry the legacy of Iron Fist,” added YG. “It is such an exciting new direction, I can’t wait for you to read all about it because I’m giving nothing less than my best efforts!”

Iron Fist #1 hits comic shops on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
