DC’s New Aquamen Series Warns of a Conspiracy Brewing in Atlantis

A little over a week after teasing a new project with the mysterious title of Aquamen, DC is finally lifting the curtain on next year’s Atlantean extravaganza. Starting in February 2022, Arthur Curry and Jackson Hyde (a.k.a. Aqualad) will find themselves in the middle of an “explosive” conspiracy in a brand new ongoing series.

When Arthur and Jackson discover that a suicide bomber in Middle America was actually a rogue Atlantean sleeper agent, they immediately set out to investigate. But along the way, they learn that this isn’t an isolated incident. Instead, the agent’s deeds are “part of a much larger and more dangerous chain reaction” of events to follow. Whatever has been set in motion also threatens to expose secrets Arthur has been keeping from those closest to him. And if they ever come to light, they may cause a permanent rift between the King of Atlantis and his young protégé.

The new series hails from co-writers Chuck Brown and Brandon Thomas and artists Sami Basri and Adriano Lucas. DC will also set up Arthur and Jackson’s adventure in the final issues of Black Manta and Aquaman: The Becoming. Those issues will hit stores on February 8, 2022 and February 15, 2022, respectively. And judging by Aquamen #1’s main cover, David Kane’s villainous alter-ego will have a role to play in the new series as well.

Aquamen #1 hits comic shops on February 22, 2022. You can preview the new series in the gallery below.
