Marvel’s New Predator Comic Book Series Launches This Summer

The Predator franchise is coming back in a big way this year. Not only is a new film directed by Dan Trachtenberg hitting Hulu later this year, a new Predator comic book is finally on the way. Marvel has announced that it’s long-awaited Predator comic book series will finally arrive in July.

Writer Ed Brisson (Iron Fist) and artist Kev Walker (Doctor Strange) are the creative team on the upcoming series. The story follows a woman named Theta who, as a child, watched a Predator slaughter her entire family. Years later, Theta remains obsessed with hunting the killer down, even as her ship begins falling apart and her food supply runs short.

Marvel previously secured the rights to all new Alien and Predator titles in 2020. But while a new Alien series launched last year, Predator’s return to comics has been more difficult. Brisson and Walker’s series was originally expected to launch in 2021 as well before Marvel suddenly put all upcoming Predator projects on hold. Regardless, Brisson insists that the book will be worth the wait.

“I’ve been obsessed with Predator since first seeing the film at the drive-in theater as a kid,” said Brisson. “I can still remember sitting there in horrified fascination and then acting out the movie for my classmates the following week at school. I bought the VHS and wore the hell out of the tape. Getting to write the characters launch for Marvel is a dream come true. When they offered me the gig, I already had a million ideas ready to go. Not only am I excited to write a Predator book, but I’m doubly excited to be working with Kev Walker on the series. The pages he’s turned in so far and mind-blowing. He’s delivered awe-inspiring alien planets; huge, blood-pumping action scenes: and devastatingly emotional beats all in the space of the first issue. I really think we’re making something quite special here.”

Predator #1 will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, July 6.
