Marvel’s Original Planet of the Apes Comics Get a New Omnibus

Earlier this month, Marvel announced plans to debut its first new Planet of the Apes series in over 45 years starting in 2023. But that’s not all—the company is also revisiting its original Planet of the Apes comics published between 1974 and 1977. Now, we have a much better idea of when to expect the upcoming reprint. Marvel has shared new details for Planet of the Apes Adventures: The Original Marvel Omnibus, which collects several classic storylines in a single volume.

Marvel began releasing its own Planet of the Apes comics one year after the last installment of the original film series, Battle for the Planet of the Apes, hit theaters in 1973. Doug Moench and Gerry Conway handled the writing for most of these stories, with art from Mike Esposito, Aldredo Alcala, Mike Ploog, and Greg Tuska.

Additionally, the omnibus will include the first-ever reprints of all 11 issues of Adventures on the Planet of the Apes. This series adapted both the original 1968 film starring Charlton Heston as well as its 1970 sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Marvel is also releasing two different versions of the collection. The primary edition will feature cover artwork by E.M. Gist (pictured above). However, a direct market exclusive will feature a throwback cover illustrated by Gil Kane, which you can view below.

Planet of the Apes Adventures: The Original Marvel Omnibus will hit stores in March 2023.
