Marvel Comics has revealed acclaimed artist Greg Capullo‘s variant cover for Incredible Hulk #9.
Incredible Hulk #9 goes on sale in February from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Danny Earls. Capullo’s cover art for the issue shows the eponymous giant green rage monster getting ready to do what he does best. Former X-Force artist Capullo — who is now perhaps best known for his work at DC — recently returned to Marvel to create variant covers for the publisher’s various titles. In addition to Incredible Hulk, he’s also tackling Wolverine, Deadpool: Seven Slaughters, Moon Knight, and Vengeance of the Moon Knight.

Incredible Hulk #9 introduces a new Marvel monster
Marvel has yet to release an official synopsis for Incredible Hulk #9. However, Johnson himself recently revealed that the upcoming issue would introduce a brand-new monster to the Marvel Universe: Frozen Charlotte.
“I will say, by nature, I’m finding myself pulled more in the direction of the new stuff, constantly. Like, I just wanna do new monsters,” the writer said on the Spec Tales podcast last month. “The one for issues #9 and #10 — I’m so excited about those. I mean, I can’t say I’m more excited than I am for the Ghost Rider-War Devil thing [in issue #6], ’cause that one’s very personal to me, but … it’s called Frozen Charlotte.”
Johnson kept details close to the vest, though did offer some insight into how Frozen Charlotte got its name. “If you Google that term, you can see what it means,” he said. “It’s a term for a specific kind of china doll — like, porcelain doll … You can get Frozen Charlottes at, like, [an] antique store. It’s kind of like Precious Moments from a hundred and something years ago — like, these little baby-looking dolls. So, instead of like a rag doll with a porcelain head, it’s just like a solid porcelain doll that’s usually very tiny.”
That said, Marvel’s Frozen Charlotte is not actually one of those dolls. “It’s a reference,” Johnson said. “Like, there is connective tissue to the idea of the frozen doll — the little doll. But that’s not what the thing is at all.”
Incredible Hulk #9 goes on sale February 21, 2024 from Marvel Comics. The issue features a main cover by regular series artist Nic Klein.
