Marvel Comics has revealed Marco Checchetto‘s cover art for February’s Ultimate Spider-Man #2, which offers a first look at the new Ultimate Universe‘s version of Green Goblin.
Checchetto’s Ultimate Spider-Man #2 cover shows the upcoming series’ grown-up Peter Parker seemingly walking to work while the new Goblin flies overhead on his signature glider. Earth-6160’s Green Goblin sports armor quite similar to that of Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn from Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man movie. This marks another significant departure from Marvel‘s original Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610), wherein Norman mutated into a literal goblin-like creature.

Peter Parker is older and wiser in Ultimate Spider-Man
Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Checchetto, the new Ultimate Spider-Man series launches this coming January. Set against the backdrop of the recently-created Earth-6160, the book centers on an older, wiser version of Marvel’s original friendly neighborhood superhero.
In the new Ultimate Universe, Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson are married and have two kids. As such, Peter will have to learn how to balance family life with his responsibilities as Spider-Man. This starkly contrasts with the original Ultimate Universe. Back on Earth-1610, Peter met his demise when he and MJ were still teenagers.
“When we decided that we were going to do a book about an older Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man, we really wanted to lean into him starting his super hero life from a very different place than what’s traditionally expected,” Hickman said previously. “Peter and MJ being married is one of many decisions we made that underline this being quite a ‘different’ kind of Spider-Man story.”
Ultimate Spider-Man #1 goes on sale January 10, 2024 from Marvel Comics. Issue #2 follows suit on February 21, 2024.
