DC has released an official preview for Wonder Woman #4, which hits comic shops tomorrow.
Superheroes are synonymous with action, yet there is more to being a hero than thwarting evil. In the DC Universe, heroism also requires one to serve as an example and inspire others to greatness. The new preview showcases how Wonder Woman does this while granting the wish of a young fan.
Written by Tom King and illustrated by Daniel Sampere, Wonder Woman #4 takes a step away from the series’ main storyline. The United States is still at war with the Amazons and Princess Diana is a wanted fugitive. Despite this, Diana honors her commitment to meet with a young American fan named Jack, who is apparently dying of cancer.

How real heroes ‘Make a Wish’ come true
While not mentioned by name in Wonder Woman #4, Diana’s actions evoke the spirit of the real world Make A Wish Foundation. Since 1980, the charity has worked to grant the requests of sick children around the world. These wishes range from meeting a favorite celebrity to spending a day working a dream job. Some lucky kids have even become a superhero for a day.
Peacemaker star John Cena works extensively with the Make A Wish Foundation. He currently holds the Guinness Book World Record for wishes granted, having made 650 visits through the charity. According to the foundation’s records, nobody else has granted more than 200 wishes.
Other charities are working to helping children meet their heroes as well. Organizations like Cause To Play and Costumers With A Cause arrange for costumed volunteers to visit children’s hospitals. While they may not have super powers, they are undoubtedly cut from the same cloth as Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman #4 releases online and in comic shops everywhere on December 19, 2023.
