The Titans: Beast World event has seen Amanda Waller sink to new lows in her efforts to turn the public against Earth’s superheroes, and a preview from DC Comics confirms that the woman known as “The Wall” is just getting started. Indeed, the next stage of her scheme involves Chester Runk, a friend of The Flash.
Written by Tom Taylor with art by Lucas Meyer, the first four pages of Titans: Beast World #4 show Peacemaker taking Chester Runk into custody. They also show GIganta joining in the fight against Beast Boy and his drones. It is unclear if this is related to Runk’s abduction, however, despite Giganta being a former member of Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad.

Who is Chester Runk?
First appearing in 1988’s The Flash #9, Chester Runk was originally introduced as a villain. A brilliant but anti-social scientist, Runk accidentally transformed himself into a living black hole. Originally using his powers to send people who annoyed him to another dimension, Runk was befriended by The Flash. Under the influence of Wally West, Runk began using his powers for good, though he never became a superhero. Instead, he used his powers to safely dispose of toxic waste.
While he’s been a friend of The Flash for decades in the comics, Chester Runk is better known to fans of the Arrowverse. Chester was introduced in The Flash season 6 premiere, played by Brandon McKnight. The Flash series finale confirmed that this Chester Runk also had black hole powers that let him safely absorb energy.
It is unclear just what Amanda Waller’s plan for Chester Runk in Titans: Beast World is. The only thing that is certain is that it can’t be good for Earth-Prime or for Chester Runk. It will also bring more trouble for the Titans and The Flash.
Titans: Beast World #4 arrives in comic shops everywhere on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
