The Walking Dead Artist Takes on Batman in The Brave and the Bold #12 First Look

DC has shared a first look inside Batman: The Brave and the Bold #12, which features a new story drawn by The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #12 hits comic shops this April. The upcoming issue of the Batman anthology series teams Adlard with writer and frequent collaborator Herik Hanna for “Henchmen” — a new, eight-page story in the vein of Batman: Black & White. Adlard also provides a variant cover for the issue to go along with Simone Di Meo‘s main cover. At this time, DC has revealed three unlettered preview pages from Hanna and Adlard’s story.

According to the publisher, “Henchmen” explores “what it means for Batman to confront Barney Peterson, an ex-Gotham City goon-for-hire who’s lost everything due to his life of crime. Does the Dark Knight believe that redemption is possible, or does he stand by the ‘once a criminal, always a criminal’ philosophy?” Adlard’s aforementioned variant cover highlights the confrontation between Batman and Barney.

Adlard is perhaps best known for his work on writer Robert Kirkman’s post-apocalyptic Image Comics series The Walking Dead. Adlard took over art duties from TWD co-creator Tony Moore starting with issue #7 in 2004. He continued to draw the series up until its conclusion with issue #193 in 2019.

What else to expect from Batman: The Brave and the Bold #12

Of course, Hanna and Adlard’s “Henchmen” isn’t all DC has in store for readers in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #12. The issue also features the conclusion of writer/artist Karl Kerschl’s team-up story starring the Dark Knight alongside Mia “Maps” Mizoguchi (of Gotham Academy fame).

Meanwhile, DC’s Artemis “continues her quest” in a story from writer Delilah S. Dawson and artist Serg Acuña. Finally, writer Torunn Grønbekk teams with artist Fernando Pasarin for a story in which Lois Lane “encounters the mysterious figure behind ‘The Hunt,’ the online challenge that has entered the real world with deadly consequences!”

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #12 goes on sale Tuesday, April 23 from DC.
