Uncanny Valley: Cartoons Get Real in New BOOM! Studios Series

BOOM! Studios has announced Uncanny Valley — a new cartoon-themed comic book series by Tony Fleecs and Dave Wachter.

Written by Fleecs and illustrated by Wachter, Uncanny Valley launches this coming April. In BOOM!‘s official announcement, series editor Jon Moisan described the title as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit by way of Something Epic.” Moisan added that Uncanny Valley is “full of heart, hilarity, and cartoon violence.” The debut issue features a main cover by Wachter, as well as variant covers by Fleecs, Brett Bean, and Dan Mora. At this time, BOOM! has revealed Wachter, Fleecs, and Bean’s covers — plus a glimpse at Wachter’s interior artwork.

What to expect from BOOM! Studios’ Uncanny Valley

An official synopsis for the new series reads as follows: “Oliver is a seemingly typical 12 year old boy … except for a mysterious family history that seems to start and end with his mother. Oh, and his unexplainable powers, that is … He can do things other boys can’t, to the point of landing himself in some trouble. Baffled by the surreal, cartoonish nature of his abilities, and followed by a murder of peculiar crows, Oliver begins to pull the thread on the secrets his family has kept from him for so long…”

“Uncanny Valley is a book that I’ve wanted to make for years. I’m so excited to be making it with the impossibly talented Dave Wachter and with BOOM! Studios,” Fleecs said. “It’s a big huge story set in two giant worlds with all sorts of magic and mystery and robots and skeletons but it’s centered on this little tiny family. Those are my favorite kinds of stories.”

“It’s awesome how things work out sometimes. Tony Fleecs is one of my favorite people and favorite writers, too,” Wachter added. “When he told me about this idea for a story years ago, I thought ‘That’s a great idea!’ Now we get to make it, along with BOOM! Studios, who puts out some of the best looking books anywhere. With Uncanny Valley, I’m stretching into new territory and having a blast at the same time.”

Uncanny Valley #1 goes on sale Wednesday, April 10 from BOOM! Studios.
