Marvel’s Latest Mickey Mouse Variant Covers Spoof X-Men, West Coast Avengers

Marvel Comics has revealed the latest batch of Disney What If? Variant Covers that will adorn forthcoming issues of Amazing Spider-Man.

The Disney What If? variant cover series continues on Wednesday, April 10 with artist Alessandro Pastrovicchio’s cover for Amazing Spider-Man #47. Pastrovicchio’s artwork homages Al Milgrom’s cover art for 1985’s West Coast Avengers #1 — featuring Mickey Mouse, Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy as California’s Mightiest Heroes.

Then, Mickey and friends star on Giada Perisonotto’s variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man #49 (on sale Wednesday, May 8), which pays tribute to Neal Adams‘ iconic cover for 1969’s X-Men #58. Finally, Ivan Bigarella’s Disney What If? variant for Amazing Spider-Man #51 spoofs John Romita Jr.‘s cover art for 1980’s Uncanny X-Men #130 — the first appearance of Dazzler.

Marvel’s Disney What If? Variant Covers launch this month

Last July, Marvel announced it would be celebrating its parent company’s 100th anniversary with its Disney100 variant cover series. The Disney100 Variant Covers adorned every other issue of Amazing Spider-Man from October 11 through December 6.

In October, Marvel announced that things would continue into the new year with the re-christened Disney What If? variant covers. The first of these, drawn by Lorenzo Pastrovicchio, shipped with Amazing Spider-Man #41 earlier this month. Mickey Mouse-themed variants for Amazing Spider-Man #43 and #45 will hit stands in February and March, respectively.
