An official synopsis for Void Rivals #9 reads as follows: “…Darak and Solila cling to life deep in the wasteland and find — SPRINGER?! It’s the first Energon Universe appearance of everyone’s favorite Triple-Changer Autobot!”

“If you needed a reminder, Void Rivals continues to be the series where we debut fan favorite characters and also explore exciting new corners of the Energon Universe,” Skybound’s Sean Mackiewicz said. “We’re only halfway through this arc and there’s no shortage of surprises to come.”

Void Rivals started the Energon Universe

Skybound and Image’s Energon Universe kicked off in June 2023 with the release of Void Rivals #1 — which featured a surprise cameo by Jetfire, another iconic Transformer. Daniel Warren Johnson’s ongoing Transformers series subsequently launched under the Skybound banner in October.

The Energon Universe has since expanded to include G.I. Joe characters as well. Duke — the first of four G.I. Joe limited series sharing continuity with Transformers and Void Rivals — launched in December from Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire. Cobra Commander — the second planned limited series — launched last month from Williamson, Andrea Milana, and Annalisa Leoni.

As for Void Rivals, Kirkman, De Felici, and Lopes’ ongoing series wrapped up its first story arc with the release of issue #6 back in November. The title returns for issue #7 on Wednesday, March 6.

Void Rivals #9 goes on sale Wednesday, May 1 from Image Comics.
