This summer, David M. Booher and Drew Zucker’s popular fantasy comic Canto continues with Canto: A Place Like Home — a new six-issue limited series published by Dark Horse Comics.
Per Dark Horse, Canto: A Place Like Home launches early this coming June. This new chapter in the Canto saga sees writer Booher and artist Zucker once again join forces with colorist Vittorio Astone and lettering studio AndWorld Design. Issue #1 features a main cover by Zucker, as well as variant covers by Lisa Heidhoff, David Mack, and Booher.

What is Canto: A Place Like Home about?
An official synopsis for A Place Like Home reads as follows: “Canto, the tiny clockwork knight, returns after making the ultimate choice to save his people. Allies have gathered to stand against the Shrouded Man in all-out war, but even an army may not be enough to stop this conquering sorcerer;s evil from taking over everything Canto holds dear. New Arcana is a home worth fighting for, it may not be easy but nothing ever is for the brave Canto!”
“We’ve always known where this story was headed,” Zucker said. “But it still feels surreal to have finally made it. When we set out on CANTO’s adventure I’m not sure we could have predicted how life changing it would be both professionally and personally. It has been a genuine pleasure to not only tell CANTO’s story, but share it with all of the readers who have come on this adventure with us. I couldn’t be more excited to bring The Shrouded Man Saga to a close with our amazing creative partners and the team at Dark Horse Comics.”
“Five years of telling Canto’s story culminates here,” Booher added. “From the very start, we’ve always known how the Shrouded Man Saga would end. We never knew if we’d get there. It’s surreal and wonderful to bring this final chapter to life with Dark Horse Comics and our incredible creative team. The final battle has arrived, and you won’t predict what’s coming.”
Canto’s journey from IDW to Dark Horse
Booher and Zucker’s Canto originally launched at IDW Publishing in 2019. That initial series ran for six issues, which IDW later collected in trade paperback format under the title Canto: If I Only Had a Heart. A five-issue sequel series, Canto II: The Hollow Men, launched at IDW in 2020 and ran through early 2021. Canto III: Lionhearted, another six-issue series subsequently ran from mid 2021 to early 2022.
Additionally, IDW published the one-shot Canto and the Clockwork Fairies (2020), the three-issue limited series Canto and the City of Giants (2021), and the two-issue limited series Canto: Tales of the Unnamed World (2022).
In October 2023, however, Canto jumped ship to Dark Horse. At the time, the Oregon-based publisher announced that it would be reissuing both If I Only Had a Heart and The Hollow Men in hardcover format. These new editions of the first two Canto titles arrive in June and July, respectively.
Canto: A Place Like Home #1 goes on sale Wednesday, June 5 from Dark Horse Comics.
