Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo have enjoyed a lengthy run on DC Comics‘ monthly Nightwing series. Beloved by both critics and readers, their work together earned Redondo an Eisner Award. Now, the legendary creators are ending their time on the title with a five-part storyline, titled Nightwing: Fallen Grayson.
Both Taylor and Redondo announced the series on their social media, while previewing two of the covers for their final story arc. “We wanted to show how high this Flying Grayson could soar, said Taylor on Instagram. “Now, it’s time for him to fall.”
Bruno Redondo announced the news on X, along with posting the same cover as Taylor. Redondo also confirmed he would be doing the full interiors on the Fallen Grayson storyline, and not just the covers.
What is Nightwing: Fallen Grayson About?
The two covers for Nightwing: Fallen Grayson suggest the story will center upon an older Dick Grayson. This is shown both by his having grown a beard and the presence of his dog, Haley, aka Bitewing. Haley is currently a puppy, so the presence of an older dog walking with Dick Grayson indicates some time has passed.
More clues lie in the solicitation for Nightwing #114, which kicks off the Fallen Grayson storyline. The summary describes the “culmination of Heartless’s sabotage” and how Dick Grayson’s newest nemesis somehow steals the acrobatic hero’s ability to leap. This deprives Dick of the ability to be “be the superhero we know and love.”
Taylor spun a similar story of a probable future for one hero in the 2018 finale of his All-New Wolverine series. The “Old Woman Laura” storyline was the culmination of Taylor’s run and offered a happy ending for Laura Kinney’s Wolverine. It seems likely Taylor is planning something similar for his final adventure with Nightwing.
Nightwing #114 arrives in comic shops everywhere in May 2024.
