Zdarsky and Anka’s The White Trees Lands a Follow-up Series at Image Comics

Image Comics has announced The Whisper Queen — a new series from the world of Chip Zdarsky and Kris Anka’s The White Trees.

Per Image, The Whisper Queen launches early this coming May. The three-issue limited series sees Zdarsky and Anka once again join forces with colorist Matt Wilson for another trip to the land of Blacksand. The debut issue features a main cover by Anka, as well as variant covers by Fiona Staples and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell.

An official synopsis for The Whisper Queen reads as follows: “The royal guard has sent their most capable bounty hunters after the accomplices in the king’s murder! Javro, once the king’s most skilled assassin, must find the killers before they and the bounty hunters — including her son — are wiped out by the kingdom’s most feared specter: The Dark Whisper!”

The White Trees lands its first collected edition

In addition to The Whisper Queen, Image has announced a new special edition of The White Trees — which collects Zdarsky and Anka’s original two-issue fantasy series for the first time. The White Trees’ collected reprint arrives in comic shops on Wednesday, May 8 — one week after The Whisper Queen #1. Check out the cover art below:

A synopsis for The White Trees reads, “Set in the fantastical world of Blacksand, peace was hard-won, and three unbending warriors carry the scars to prove it. Now, almost twenty years later, their children are missing and war is on the horizon. Can they put aside their memories of the war — and each other — for one last adventure?”

Chip Zdarsky dishes on The Whisper Queen

“The White Trees is the best project I’ve ever been involved in, thanks to the gorgeous work by Kris and Matt,” Zdarsky said. “We always knew there were more stories to tell in the world of Blacksand, so getting the gang back together for another wild, action-filled adventure was a no-brainer. It’s years in the making and I hope everyone is ready to find out what happened next in The Whisper Queen!”

Series artist Anka simply added, “We’re back!”

The Whisper Queen goes on sale Wednesday, May 1 from Image Comics.
